Shopify Vs Wix – What’s the Difference?

Both Shopify and Wix are reliable website builder platforms that are geared firmly towards ecommerce. Both offer a wide range of professional-looking, contemporary templates that can be customized to suit the needs of your store.

Both offer a range of ecommerce features, such as shipping options, payment options and inventory management. But which is the better platform for your ecommerce project?

Ease of Setup

Shopify makes it easy to create an online store, even if you have no experience with website development. The platform’s ecommerce templates and drag-and-drop editor are user-friendly, but you can also code your site if you want more advanced functionality.

This is where Shopify falls a little short. While it does have a wide range of marketing tools, these are mainly focused on search engine optimization. However, it does have an in-house analytics tool that lets you see what people are doing on your website and how much revenue you’re making. It also offers a number of useful ecommerce apps that can help you with inventory management, such as Shopify POS and Shippo.


The ability to monitor and analyze customer activity on your storefront is vital for ecommerce success. Both Shopify and Wix offer a good range of analytics tools, including cart recovery, which lets you identify visitors who add items to their shopping cart but don’t complete the purchase. You can then send them a follow-up email offering them a discount code to encourage them to come back and finish their purchase. This functionality is available through all Shopify plans and most Wix ecommerce plans.

Shopify leads the way when it comes to multi-channel selling, providing integration with more than 10 different selling channels including Amazon, eBay and Facebook. The platform also offers a variety of useful integrations for ecommerce and dropshipping.

On the other hand, Wix is more focused on building a full-blown online store and has a better suite of tools for creating content. This includes blog features, built-in social media management and data capture options. Wix ecommerce stores can also offer users the option to customize products by adding their own text for engraving, for example.

Both platforms offer 24/7 support in English, with users of Shopify?s advanced plans getting access to a dedicated account manager. There are also additional specialised apps that add functionality such as custom pricing by region to help businesses sell internationally.

While Wix has a more extensive app market than Shopify, it lacks some of the more advanced ecommerce marketing and SEO features that are available on the latter. That said, it does have a solid native SEO suite and a robust email marketing tool called Wix Mail, with users also able to integrate a number of professional email solutions such as GetResponse and AWeber. The platform also offers a free ad campaign worth £120 per month for all customers. This is a great incentive to give the platform a try.
